Last year, I went on two dates with this guy and we shared a really nice kiss after the second date... then I was ghosted... I randomly messaged him this year and he responded. He had an explanation for the ghosting... issues with his sons mother and issues with his family...Against my better judgement, I went on another date with him, hopeful romantic maybe or just dumb? This time to his house where we watched a movie, had pizza. Really chill and cool. We made out a bit but didn't have sex. He was respectful and took me home the next morning. We kissed goodbye. We continue to message each other and video chat once in a while but it is sporadic. Whenever I bring up meeting again, he always has an excuse... work or his son. Was I just dumb to try again?

No, you’re not stupid for circling back to him. The guy simply either isn’t interested enough to progress the relationship or he’s not in a place to actively and consistently date someone.
