We had a date scheduled for Friday night. A few hours before we’d agreed to meet, I sent him a text to confirm. No response. I didn’t bother getting ready. The following day he sent a text apologizing. He’d gotten caught up at a work happy hour and lost track of time. He asked if I would reschedule. What should I say?

You say nothing. Unless he suffered a traumatic brain injury in the hours leading up to your date, he did not forget you and had plans. He didn’t lose track of time. He didn’t care enough to meet the obligation to which he agreed.

It’s bad enough when someone cancels a first date. Do what you can to avoid that. If you cancel and reschedule, you’ll be starting at a deficit. Canceling ruins the momentum. It plants a seed of doubt in the head of the person you planned to meet.

Before you agree to a first date with someone - regardless of where or what method you use to meet them - they must consistently demonstrate three things:
