I recently saw The Batman and realized I have a "type". The reclusive, absent man. I have this belief that I can "change him" and "open him up to love". How do I stop believing this lie i tell myself?

The way to break this pattern is to first figure out why you have it in the first place. Here are a few options to consider:

You’re drawn to his damage - Batman’s parents were murdered in front of him, right? You’re not attracted to his reclusive and stoic nature but the potential trauma that caused him to be that way. Often times, that’s a result of our own (typically unresolved) trauma. It’s easier to try to fix someone else. Walking around in someone else’s head saves you from the psychological bear traps hidden underfoot. There’s less of a chance you’ll be triggered. Or worse - shamed. Distracting yourself with someone else’s pain means you get to avoid your own.
