Since losing my husband, I have been in 3 long-term relationships in the past twenty tears (with some dating sprinkled in between each) but only one wanted to commit. I have been on a dating website but continue to attract men I’m not aligned with. It seems they want endless phone calls without actually asking for a date, or they are emotionally unavailable etc. What am I doing wrong!?

The only thing you’re doing “wrong” is allowing the men to determine the pace of the relationship. You’re going along to get along, waiting for them to take things to the next level.

The way to avoid these scenarios is to make your intentions clear from the start.

  1. Put a line in your dating profile that states you’re dating with the intention of finding a long-term relationship.

  2. Mention somewhere in your profile that you prefer to meet offline relatively quickly to test potential chemistry. Work this info into one of the prompts.

  3. Once you’ve messaged back and forth a bit and established rapport, suggest a video chat. If they refuse to meet that request, you’ll have your answer.
