Is Post-Nut Clarity A Thing?
A lot of men say how they feel in those minutes right after sex are the determining factor on why they ghost someone.
A reader recently sent me a message asking me what I thought of this Tik Tok.
In the video, podcast host Joe Rogan and his guest discuss the after-effects they experience once they’ve had an orgasm. They refer to these moments as “post-nut clarity.” For those who prefer science over misogynistic podcast commentary, what they’re actually referring to is the time after ejaculation when their prefrontal cortex - the reasoning center of the brain - re-activates. Much like when someone with PTSD is triggered, the pre-frontal cortex essentially goes off-line during sex due to the surge in chemicals coursing through their brain. After a person has an orgasm, oxytocin is then released, assisting in normalizing the brain chemical levels and re-activating your pre-frontal cortex.
But here’s the thing: that “clarity” of which Rogan’s co-host speaks might not be a clearnness of thought at all. It’s possible he’s conflating this alleged clarity with a phenomenon called post-coital dysphoria.
