I came across this article about a viral Tik Tok from a woman lamenting the fact she’s 46 and still single. With a surgery looming, she’s coming to terms with the fact she does not have a partner at a time when she will need help recovering.

“All the good men got married in their twenties and thirties,” she says through tears.

Let’s unpack that, shall we?

Those “good men” may have gotten married in their twenties and thirties, but at least 50% of them were divorced less than 10 years later. Getting married younger is not indicative of someone’s character. It doesn’t mean they were better at dating than you. It means they were lucky. It means the timing was right. It also might mean they were ready to have kids and found the perfect human incubator to do so. Or they simply couldn’t live on their own and needed a Mommy to take care of them.

Take a look at the list compiled for common reasons couples divorce. Getting married young in no way means someone is “good.”

I’d also like to add that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics over 50% of people over 40 are single. Being single over 40 (or even in your late 30’s) doesn’t mean you screwed up.
