Here’s a typical dating app scenario.

Two people match. They exchange a few messages filled with witty banter. They make plans to meet offline, and then — POOF — one of them disappears.

Unfortunately, not everybody on dating apps is there to get dates. Many are nursing broken hearts, looking for a thrill, or trying to fill a void. Or they’re avoidant and trying to convince themselves they are open to meeting someone but are too terrified of rejection to put themselves out there.

The chances you’ll attract one of these emotionally unavailable folks is alarmingly high. That’s why you need to craft a dating profile to ward them off. The following are the criteria your dating profile should include if you hope to attract someone ready for a relationship.

Vulnerability

You don’t have to lay yourself bare. I recommend you don’t. Instead, reveal something that will humanize you. Maybe you can’t go a day without bumping into something. Or how Marley & Me made you ugly cry for days. The goal is to share something that makes you relatable. Leave out mentions of invisible disabilities like mental illness, recent breakups, or any similar transition in life that might have you feeling raw. Scammers and other toxic types will hone in on more sensitive revelations and exploit them to their advantage.
